(JPR) — The University of the Philippines (UP) community remembered the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo in a simple memorial service held Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) Assembly Hall in Diliman, Quezon City.

The tribute titled “Salamat, Jesse” begun with a requiem Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Henry Fererras, parish priest of the Holy Sacrifice Parish in UP Diliman.

NCPAG faculty members and some UP officials gave eulogies after the Mass.

The NCPAG student council also led a candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to the late secretary.

Friends, colleagues hold prayer vigil for Robredo, pilots

Robredo graduated from UP with a Masters in Business Administration degree in 1985. He was also named as the graduate school and faculty organization awardee for scholarly excellence. In 2012, the UP Alumni Association conferred a distinguished alumnus award to Robredo for his outstanding achievement in good governance.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, the 6-seater Piper Senica plane carrying Robredo and three others crashed in the waters off Masbate City at around 4:30 p.m. Robredo’s police bodyguard, Chief Insp. June Paolo Abrazado, was the lone survivor in the crash.
