MANILA, Philippines (JPR) — As of Saturday noon, almost 2,000 people have signed an online petition against the construction of a high-rise condominium just a few meters away from the Rizal Park in Manila.
Supporters of the petition titled “No to DMCI’s Torre de Manila Project” believe that the condominium would obstruct Rizal Park’s sightline and would be offensive to Jose Rizal, who is considered as the country’s national hero.
“So from hereon, every time you take a photo or look at our national hero and think of him — you will also take in the sight of this Terror of Manila,” cultural activist Carlos Celdran wrote on the online petition’s page.
But according to the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), the government agency that manages Rizal Park, the condominium will not directly block the Rizal monument.
