Binondo gears up for Chinese Lunar New Year

MANILA, Philippines — Vendors peddle fruits and good luck charms around Binondo, Manila’s Chinatown, as Chinese Lunar New Year approaches.

Binondo, established in the late 1600s, is believed to be the world’s oldest Chinatown.

The Chinese New Year falls on Friday, January 31, this year. President Benigno Aquino III declared the day as a special non-working holiday across the country.
